I saw a scrubby tree, about 10 feet tall, and about 10 feet wide, with very large, stiff leaves growing in an empty lot 50 feet from the tide line, in Progresso. What caught my eye, however, was not the leaves, but this seed pod. There were about 5 pods on one tree. They were light as a feather, soft as if they were filled with air, and leathery feeling. The flowers were a familiar cluster, no smell, but pretty. When I got home, I was reading the current Dave's Garden newsletter, and in poking around, I discovered what this is! A member of the
asclepia family!
