May garden walk

The two children in my neighborhood call this garden The Enchanted Forest. I think the enchantment part comes from the paths winding through the trees, the huge bell in the vegetable garden, and the small pond with painfully shy fish. No matter, if they think it's enchanted, then it is! Of course, the place designated as the Fairy Garden probably has something to do with the idea, too. The Fairy Garden needs some love and attention, which is on the List. In the meantime, I wandered through, and took a few photos last weekend. The late azaleas are blooming, for the first time in several years. With the heavy rains last September, a little rain this spring, and the deer choosing to dine on other shrubs, they have a chance to show off.

Gypsygirl gave me a seed packet with the Three Sisters: corn, beans, squash. The seeds made it to the ground this spring, and the squash in this photo are living proof! I have no hope, however, for harvest. The vine borers will arrive soon, as usual. But, until they do, I'll admire the beautiful leaves and blooms.

The former porch railings, turned on end, make a great trellis for the tomatoes.

The oakleaf hydrangeas are beautiful this year, blooming...

The blueberry bushes are loaded this year. Enough for the birds and us!

Last summer I began plugging bits and pieces of grass here, the path from the street to the white garden. While it's pretty densely shaded here, the St. Augustine grass is beginning to fill in. I added a little more last week. Now, I'd like some rain, please.

Mr. Fobelisk, made by texturizing clay artist extraordinaire, Betsy Parker. Mr. F lives in the Purple Reign garden, with the orange asclepias.

Enchanted? For me, it is. I've cleared, amended, planted, pulled out and composted, planted again, moved, watered and danced in this garden. A garden that will probably never be wiped out by flood water. Yep, enchanted!

Hey sistah I love the new design. Talk to the 3 sisters and they will bloom, so glad you got them planted and you will think of me when you look at them.

Blooms? Good grief, if the moth's don't lay eggs for the (*&^%^ borers, I'm gonna be overrun with squash! The gorgeous plants are loaded with blooms. The veggie garden is off to a terrific start. Well, except for the beans. I've given up on beans for this year! Yes, I'm seeing your face in every squash blossom, sistah.
love, k

Hey Karen, sounds like you've been busy as well. If you need help with the garden, I could use some more theraphy. Call me or send me a text. Fyi: My sister gave lacey an asst. of seed pkts for easter, but she also included marigolds. plant them around your veggies, it helps keep the bugs from eating your veggies. Hope things are well with you and stuart? Chat with you later. : )
