Our room at Bosque Encantado, in the jungle. We had our own chicken scratching around, with banana trees, avocado trees and wild coffee growing all around us. There are Mayan ceremonial calender stones forming a patio just off the newly built dining palapa. They are not serving breakfast yet, but will be soon.
The rails around the loft and the steps up to the loft would never pass in spection in the States. The rail are probably made from coffee trees. The bricks used in the construction of the hotel are hand-made.
Doors and gates are hand-made here, too. This one, leading into one of the meditation centers in San Marcos, is one of our favorites. Everyone living in San Marcos has a "use what you have" mentality about everything, but particularly building and furnishings. There is electricity here, and running water, but there are no street lights. Heck, there are hardly any streets! Most hotels we've been in have very little lighting, since most people only spend their sleeping hours inside. Kitchens are bare bones, too, with cold water only. That's true in Mexico, too...most every kitchen I know has only cold water.
This is the gate to Terry's compound. She is the gringa owner of our hotel, and has invited us to visit. We can' t see the house through the coffee and avocado trees. Those pics, next...
