A tree house in San Marcos

Our hostess, Terry, built this treehouse around a tree about 15 years ago. It's a work in progress, with much open space and room for the tree to expand. It's built on rock pilings, the house is not supported by the tree, but rather surrounded by it. The note in my paper journal this day was titled, "Gifts", 1- a tour of Terry's gardens and house; 2- two songs from Terry. She invited us upstairs, and sang two songs she wrote. Then she dashed off for a Mayan healing ceremony, one that she was leading. We met a local man, the architect of her hotel and the house, who is living in a small house in her jungle, and a local woman, living downstairs. Terry is well known in the town as a supporter of local people and customs. We're proud to have met her.

This is the porch, where we sat for her songs...

Hard to distinguish, but this is an avocado tree that is bigger than the oak tree in my back yard at home. Beside providing more avocados than she can sell, it provides shade for the coffee growing wild under neath.

The coffee fermenting tank, and it was full of cherry coffee in the fermenting process. The entire area smelled sweet! When we walked past on the path later, I recognized the smell.
