Our Castle. The living room includes a sofa of the same design as the chairs. The kitchen is bare bones by gringo standards, but very nice as far as kitchens go here. I bought a blender, which is the modern equivalent of a mortar and pestle. A blender and a comal are the two most important extra tools in a Oaxacan kitchen. Extra, as more than a knife, bowl and fire source. The fridge is small, but most foods are not kept in the fridge here.

Oaxacan cooking is based on roasted vegetables and chiles, which are then ground into sauces, or gravies. More about the food later...
