lunch at Los Danzantes

Our new friends and neighbors, Joann and Tom invited us to join them for lunch Friday afternoon. They chose one of the cities best restaurants, Los Danzantes, which has a lunch special most Wednesdays and Fridays. You can order from the menu, or enjoy the special of the day (which many restaurants offer). The restaurant is a feast for the eyes even before the food arrives! The entrance is a small courtyard, filled with a pool bordered with corrugated metal and grasses. Another pool greets us just inside the restaurant, which is at the back of the building. The waitress brought shot glasses, and poured mexcal for us without speaking, and then brought the pitcher of the fruit drink of the day: guanabana. The first course was bruschetta, with the best balsamic vinegar I've ever tasted. I could have eaten a bowl of it! The second course was a pasta dish (yes, even here!), with nuts, cheese and basil. We finished with a gelatin of jamaica, coco and a local herb. Hibiscus flowers, coconut and an anise flavor, red/white/green. THEN, we had a locally grown coffee! After 2 hours, we waddled out into the late afternoon street, completely satisfied with the company and conversation.

Joann and I don't understand why this cleverly simple rack is not used in every restaurant in the world! It's about 4 feet tall, has4 hooks (hidden by her hat) at the top for purses and hats or shawls. There is one for each table in Los Danzantes. Be prepared, OB or BabyJess, when we get home I'm going to commission you to make one for me! BTW, the zigzag wall behind the rack is the 20 foot tall back wall of the restaurant. The roof is a retracable canvas, letting in filtered sunlight.
